ORANGE FIVE

>

Orange Five Pro Origins

In 2000 Orange Bikes introduced the Orange Sub 5, 20 years later it's still around now known as the <a href=Orange Five. One of the most unique things about the Five is that the basic principle and design have remained the same as the original "if it ain't broke don't fix it". You could look at the frame from the 2000 Orange Sub 5 and it wouldn't be a million miles away from the 2020 Orange Five frame you see in shops today.

Of course there has been major performance changes on the original design. To ride a 2000 Orange Sub 5 would feel quite different to a 2020 model Five, but that's 20 years of development for you.

Orange Five Pro Frame design and geometry

One of the biggest changes to the bike in terms of geometry has occurred at the front end of the frame. In 2000 the Sub 5 had a 71 degree head angle, in 2013 the Five Pro has a 65 degree head angle with a tapered head tube. Those 6 degrees make a huge difference in the way the bike handles and feels out on the trail, and have helped the Five to be considered one of (if not the) best trail bike in the world.

With 650b sized wheels as standard on the Orange Five, the perfect balance between the fast acceleration and handling of the 26" wheel, and the natural fast rolling 29'er.

The single pivot design is not only simple, but it allows the Orange Five to track exceptionally well over every type of ground. A Maxle in the back end has been standard since 2013 making it one of the most stable and well tracking bikes on the planet. The feeling of knowing you're not going to blow over the top of a berm and worry about where the back wheel will end up is very confidence inspiring! Sign up for the Tour of Ben Nevis and see just how many people are out on a Orange Five and you will see there really is no other choice for UK riding.

Five Specification and upgrades

Orange is the envy of most bike companies, the Five RS is specc'd with Hope pro 4hubs, RockShox Pike Ultimate 150mm forks, A RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate shock and SRAM GX Eagle 12spd as standard, but being able to offer such a wide range of upgrades and for pretty much a custom build if your wallet will allow is where Orange differs as a company. Colours include cosmic white, fizzy orange and cyan blue to name a few and almost everything is upgradable from the bottom bracket to the forks. These upgrades are not just gimmicks, they enable you to fine tune the bike to your style of riding, to make the bike and the ride all the more enjoyable.

Orange bikes are handmade in Halifax: this is a British bike through and through. It's not just me that is a true believer in this brand, check out what Guy Kesteven had to say below..
